The
listener, whom all musicians are trying to reach, doesnt have
to be able to analyse the music. He doesn't necessarily have to
know how it's put together. But if a music can reach him, he becomes
part of the music. He adds his response to the continuum of experience
that keeps alive what a musician does, as it affects so many different
kinds of consciousness in ways he cannot possibly conceive.
There
are lots of works of art which even the most up-to-date public
won't be prepared for, no matter how uneasy this may make them.
Instead the composer brings himself into line with them, who just
want a kind of aural libido. But music isn't there to hinder thought.
Irrlight,
Cyborg, Mirage and now Picasso Geht Spazieren are like soup stock
cubes - you can't actually eat them. Yet there were, and still
are, many great soups made out of them.
