Will
they or won't they was the big question for Saturday night's
headliners - play Creep that is. It is a silly thing to obsess
a crowd especially when you consider their body of work And
they pretty much played all the favourites from an ok Paranoid
Android, to a barn-storming Just not forgetting a beautifully
evocative No Surprises and an electro punky Idioteque that
had Thom bouncing all over the stage like a deranged Tigger.
With a band that in previous years has insisted on just playing
the new stuff' there were only three in the almost two hour
set so as a fan you can't really ask for more than that.
After an incredible set the five-piece came back with what
started off as a rather lacklustre encore but redeemed itself
with a 20,000 strong sing-a-long Karma Police and a superb
chilled out Everything in its Right Place. But although they
skipped off once more that wasn't it.
The whispers went round - surely they weren't going to play
Creep, a song Thom Yorke has, in the past, said he is bored
playing. But Radiohead haven't become the biggest band on
the planet just by writing good songs. They knew what everyone
out there was thinking and they duly obliged taking everyone,
very pleasantly, by surprise once again. Miserable? Well there
were tears but certainly no sad ones. By Neil Jones
