Gong
City (Oval) Hall, Sheffield, UK
25th March 1976

For many years I thought this recording had been lost forever, after recording over the master tape in the 1985 to record a Ron Geesin concert in Nottingham. All that remains of the original master recording is the last 10 minutes. I had heard that a bootleg exists of my recording. I have now remastered the unprocessed version of this show to slightly reduce hiss, remove lots of very tiny gaps here and there, and repair a section of "Cat in Clarks Shoes" where one channel cut out a couple of times. The whole show now sounds absolutely superb. This is one of my best ever live recordings recorded on the Sony TC 153 SD portable cassette deck with a single-point Technics microphone..
Then in June 2006, more than thirty years after the show, Steve D was creating some CDs from a cassette collection for a collector called Andy Gariboldi who I had sent a copy of this show probably in the late seventies. I am therefore certain that this tape must be a first generation copy of my master, shame I only used a BASF Low Noise tape, but despite that the quality is still excellent.
