For an introduction
to the opera, Roger Waters read out a long announcement,
making every effort to speak in the Polish language. However
at the end of this he introduced the conductor Rick Wentworth
as Rick Wakeman! I've not read any reviews that picked up
on this.
Watching this Polish TV broadcast from the beginning I could
see that it was going to be a lavish production. As soon
as I saw the swinging trapeze act, in the overture, I immediately
thought of Cirque Du Soleil. In fact this is identical to
one of their acts known as the "Russian Swing".
Further on into the opera there were more scenes that featured
acrobats, suspended singers and aerial acts that were definately
at least influenced by Cirque Du Soleil, yet there is no
credit to them in the titles at the end. Roger Waters had
been having talks with this production company to do a production
of The Wall, so this must have been where the inspiration
had come from.
If you like the music to this opera, then you will love
this DVD. The picture quality is superb, most likely having
been taken from a digital source, and the audio is in top
form too.
