Pink Floyd
"Waterbury Recorder No 3" Transfer #2
The Palace Theater, Waterbury, Connecticut, USA
18th Mar 1973

Date/venue: 1973 March 18 - The Palace Theater, Waterbury, Connecticut, USA / or Radio City Music Hall, NY, USA (scheduled date: 1973-03-17 - 1:00am night show)
Tape Labeled: 1973 March 18 - The Palace Theater, Waterbury, Connecticut
Generation: 4th (mabe even 5th / not 3rd as formerly stated)
cassette label = Maxell XL II High Position 90x2
transferred by me (sara) from borrowed cassette tapes, with many thanks to T.!
transfer1 on December 2004 / transfer2 on May 2005
my playback deck = Philips (FCD485), my audio card = Sound Blaster Live recorded into HD via CD WAVE.
Comparing the transfers:
transfer1 : This sounded pretty nice but the left channel turned out much less amplified so I re-balanced it a bit from the stereo, sound quality was comparable but not better than the previous version in circulation known as cass[3]>cdr.
transfer2 : This time the transfer turned out great, I changed deck (same stereo / doubledeck) and I set the equalizer in the "classic" position, the sound definition (especially on the vocal parts) surpassed amazingly not only my previous transfer but also the cass>MD version around before, I just love it!!
did nothing on the above transfers, the tape has some tics native on the original tape that I didn't remove.
NB: I got this tape as "low gen" as it actually is, although this tape was believed to be a 3rd generation copy from the masters for some time. Recent resarches revealed it to be not lower than 4th (likely right 4th or 5th gen). This tape was previously transferred to MD and then from the MD to CD and was around labeled actually "from 3rd gen" for some time, that lineage has to be corrected as: "likely 4th gen>MD>CDR" ... there's of course some 3rd Gen copy of the master around but not this tape.
DATE/VENUE IS STILL IN QUESTION (this particular recorder was labeled originally either as 1973-03-18 or 1973-03-18 RCMH, relabeled as Waterbury in the late 80s)
(notes from YGBC)

Until now, I have been dis-satisfied with every version of this show from the various recorders, but this recording for once, is great, lots of high frequencies, nice and clear and for once a great show to listen to. This is definately the best version so far of this concert, forget the rest. There are truly amazing versions of Set the Controls and Careful with that axe Eugene included in this show, introducing special effects like I have not heard before in these songs.

Remaster Notes:
One of the worse case of tics was found in Set The Controls, it's sometimes easy to move just one tic, but when there are so many it can take ages. To me the tics and gaps are like having a scratch on a vinyl record, if it can be removed then it will sound a lot better. I have literally spent hours just repairing Set the Controls, but it will have been worth it because now it sounds fantastic without all those tics. However some were impossible to remove (or find), and others reduced from a sharp click to a dull click so that it is less noticeable. All this is extremely rewarding when completed, as when finished the music will sound much better without all those tics. Also any "zzup" noises found, due to tape turns have been removed so that the music flows seamlessly. I always keep the original discs before remastering if you really want to hear all the tics!
