Pink
Floyd
"Take up my Stethoscope
and Walk"
Township
Auditorium, Columbia, South Carolina, USA
16th Apr 1972
|
Notes from YGBC:
This is just a GREAT surprise! Apart from the very nice sound
quality we can enjoy now "Echoes" too, that in spite
of what it someone believed before, has been recorded!
Notes as they came with the files (and updated):
Why such a strange title from first Pink Floyd's album? Listen
carefully to the show... You will hear two guys near the taper,
count "one - two - three", and then scream loudly:
"See-Saw" (several times), each time someone
else shouts "Seamus", and finally they shout
"Take up my stethoscope and walk" just before "Atom
Heart Mother"...
Raw rip from very nice 2nd generation audience tapes. This
is as complete copy of this concert, as we will ever get.
Copy from copy of the taper's masters [show was recerded on
portable reel-to-reel - parts one and three on one tape, part
two on the other].
As we can see now - and contrary to "In The Flesh" book -
"Atom Heart Mother" was performed as an encore, not
"Echoes"... Source and digital transfer: Wojtek
My Notes:
Yes this is very nice, Disc 1 is OK, but Disc 2 for me far
too hissy, the music will be much clearer with the hiss at
least reduced. Also I would delete the last 8 seconds of the
sudden poor quality of Brain Damage as it spoils the
ending, then fade out instead of an abrupt cut. For the purists
I will keep the original raw rip if that version is required.
Very strange encore requests from the two guys near the taper,
I don't think Pink Floyd have ever played "See-Saw"
live!
Remastering Notes:
So far I only made repairs to Disc 2, I used Light Hiss reduction
as the hiss for me was beyond tolerable, also a few tiny drop-outs
were removed making it play smoother, and finally a cut in
the middle of Atom Heart Mother was repaired seamlessly.
It's OK having these raw recordings but for me they are far
better when these sort of repairs are carried out. Hiss reduction
is always a tricky subject, I do try to only reduce hiss where
I think it is really necessary, and in this case the music
sounds much better without the constant distraction of the
hiss.
