What is "The Committee"?
The committee is a rare british short film from 1968 about a man
who is forced to confront a crime he committed. He tells his bizarre
story when he is summoned to participate in a committee. Peter
Sykes and Max Steuer wrote and directed this obscure piece of
cinema which contains a very special soundtrack. This is the music
of Pink Floyd.
What is the Pink Floyds contribution?
The Pink Floyd wrote and performed a serie of tracks (see below)
amongst these we find one of the earliest recorded versions of
"Careful with that Axe, Eugene"
Track
Details:
1.
Intro (as played in the movie (0:34)
Tape loop heard at the very beginning of
the film. Might be a piece edited out from existing recordings.
2. Intro (Played in reverse) (0:34)
3. Main Theme #1 (1:12)
A shorter edit played when the the movie
begins to evolve - Vaguely familiar to "Celestial Voices"
4. The Party (1:49)
Hammond organ based jazz improvisation.
I figure this to be one of two tracks not by the Pink Floyd. "The
Crazy World of Arthur Brown" appear moments later and I suspect
that they are responsible for this segment of "Striptease music".
5. Fire or could be Nightmare (2:53)
sung by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown
6. The Confession (10:12)
The main piece streches over ten minutes
of film while the main character confronts his acts companied
by the director at a church. The music is in this case bits and
pieces of improvisations and Tape loops. The music comes on and
off. The whole "Suite" ends with "Careful with that Axe Eugene".
7. Main Theme #2 (3.33)
Possibly the best segment of music in the
film. Played while the credits roll. As in Track 2 but much clearer
and defined.
