Led Zeppelin
"Intimidator (Empress Valley)"
Le Grand Casino de Montreux, Geneva, Switzerland
7th March 1970

A supremely excellent audience recording that will convince you that the band is in the room with you. Spirited and forceful performance too. The opening song suffers from some distortion, but the sound then settles down and is very nice. Some excellent playing by Jimmy Page.

This was the first time Zeppelin had played at the Montreux Jazz Festival This was the first time Zeppelin had played at the Montreux Jazz Festival. The material is apparently from two different sources an excellent (particularly for the time) audience tape and an incomplete soundboard recording as follows: We're Gonna Groove / I Can't Quit You / Dazed And Confused / White Summer- Black Mountain Side / How Many More Times / Whole Lotta Love.

With this show, Zeppelin began what was to be a close relationship with promoter Claude Knobs; In 1971 and 1972 they would return to play "warm-up" dates as a gesture of friendship to him. The show highlights include a dramatic organ solo from JPJones leading into "ThankYou" and a fine "Heartbreaker" with an introduction reminiscent of ideas reworked much later into "Walter's Walk".
